About SimDay
SimDay is a free browser tool for gyms, boxes and run clubs that run their own fitness-race simulation days. It replaces the spreadsheet, the clipboard and the stopwatch with one plan that follows the event from sign-up list to results page.
What it does
- Builds an event from an editable format template: legs, distances, reps, divisions and per-division loads, in kg or lb and km or miles.
- Plans heats by division and lane capacity, keeps each sled set-up in the same lane so plates change as rarely as possible, and resolves time-window and coach/athlete clashes.
- Runs a live room: judges tap splits on their phones, the organiser starts heats and fixes splits, the gym TV shows running clocks and standings, and a results page can be published.
- Prints heat sheets, judge sheets and rep sheets, exports results as CSV, and draws a split card image per athlete.
How the timing works
Every action — a heat start, a judge’s tap, a penalty, an undo, an organiser’s correction — is stored as an entry in an append-only log for the room. Every screen rebuilds the race from that log, so a judge’s phone that was offline for ten minutes sends its taps late and the result is exactly the same as if they had arrived on time. Taps carry the time on the judge’s phone; the heat start carries the time on the organiser’s phone. Phones with automatic date and time are normally within a fraction of a second of each other; SimDay warns a device whose clock is more than three seconds out.
Two taps on the same athlete within 1.5 seconds are treated as one accidental double tap, two judges tapping the same checkpoint keep the earlier time, and the organiser’s corrections always win. All of this is covered by automated tests.
Where the standards come from
The station pages describe generic in-gym judging conventions written for SimDay. Where a page states a number from a published source — wall-ball target heights, box heights or erg damper guidance — it cites the source (CrossFit Games Open standards, Concept2) with the date it was checked. The format templates are generic: SimDay contains no official race data, and its default loads are placeholders for each gym to set.
Limits
- SimDay is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to HYROX, DEKA or Spartan. “HYROX-style” is used only to describe the kind of event.
- Phone tapping is hand timing. It is accurate to human reaction time, which is fine for an in-gym event and not a substitute for chip timing at a sanctioned race.
- Guides and checklists are practical event-organising advice, not medical, legal, insurance or safety advice. Check your risk assessment, first-aid cover and insurance with the right professionals.
