How it runs
- Eight 1 km legs per team: runners go in order 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4, so everyone runs twice with a rest between.
- Each handover is a checkpoint: a judge at the handover zone taps the team as the incoming runner crosses the line, which gives every runner their own leg time on the split card.
- Waves of 6–10 teams every 5 minutes keep the loop uncrowded.
Divisions and placeholder loads
These loads are placeholders chosen to be easy to plate in a typical gym. Set your own in the planner; sled loads include the sled.
- Mixed team (4): Relay of 4
- Open team (4): Relay of 4
- Pairs: Relay of 2
How many athletes fit
With the default 8 lanes and a heat every 5 minutes from 09:00. “Done by” adds 50 minutes to the last start — a planning assumption for a typical gym athlete on this course (30–50 min), not a measured figure. Pairs and relay teams take one lane each.
| Entries | Heats | Last start | Done by about |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 | 3 | 09:10 | 10:00 |
| 48 | 6 | 09:25 | 10:15 |
| 96 | 12 | 09:55 | 10:45 |
Judging this format
- Handovers happen inside a marked zone with a hand touch or a band passed over.
- One judge at the handover line can time every team in the wave by tapping the team as each runner arrives.
Variations
- Pairs: two runners alternate four times each.
- Add a single station at the handover (for example 10 burpees) to make it a run-and-station relay.
