The standard to brief
The athlete lifts the ball from the floor and passes it over either shoulder to land behind them, then turns to face it for the next rep. Each rep starts with the ball still on the floor.
Common no-reps
- Ball not fully over the shoulder (dropped beside the athlete).
- Throwing the ball sideways rather than over the shoulder.
Judging notes
- Stand to one side, out of the drop zone behind the athlete.
- Keep other athletes and spectators clear behind the lane.
Setting it up in a gym
- Use a soft, non-bouncing ball on a rubber floor or mat.
- Leave a clear 2 m landing zone behind each athlete.
Equipment
- Dead balls / slam balls per division weight
- Mats or rubber floor
