The standard to brief
From lying on the back, the athlete touches the ball to the floor behind the head, sits up and touches the ball to the floor or a target in front of the feet (or past the knees — choose one and brief it). Feet may be anchored only if you allow it.
Common no-reps
- Ball not touching the floor behind the head.
- Not sitting up far enough to reach the front target.
Judging notes
- Judge from the side.
- Mats or an abmat under the lower back keep the standard consistent and protect skin.
Setting it up in a gym
- One mat per athlete; mark the front target with tape if you use one.
