Sled pull
Pull a loaded sled hand over hand with a rope from a fixed box; the athlete stays behind the line.
- SimDay default
- 50 m (55 yd)
- Loaded
- Yes (total incl. sled) — set per division
- Plates change between heats
- Yes — plan heats around it
- Space per lane
- Same lane as the push plus the pulling box behind the line.
The standard to brief
The athlete stands inside a marked box behind the line and pulls the sled towards them hand over hand with the rope until the whole sled crosses the line, then walks the sled back to the start (or turns round) for the next length.
Common no-reps
- Stepping out of the pulling box while the sled is moving (walking backwards with the rope).
- Sled not fully across the line before the athlete walks it back.
Judging notes
- Watch the athlete’s feet, not the sled: the fault is walking backwards out of the box.
- Keep rope tails out of the next lane; they trip people.
- Count lengths aloud, as for the push.
Setting it up in a gym
- Mark a pulling box about 1–2 m deep behind the line with tape.
- Use ropes long enough to reach the far end of the lane plus a couple of metres.
- Share sleds with the push only if you have time to swap rope attachments and loads; otherwise give the pull its own sleds.
Equipment
- Sled with rope attachment per lane
- Ropes (one per lane plus a spare)
- Chalk
- Tape for the box
Scaling for beginners
Lighter division loads; keep the distance.
